Japanese Programs for MEXT Scholarship Students

1. Intensive Japanese Language Program

Eligibility :

To be admitted into this program, you need to contact the Japanese Embassy in your home country so that you can first apply for the Government scholarship, since this program is exclusively for those students who receive scholarship from the Japanese government.

Goals :

This program is intended for those students who receive scholarship from the Japanese government and have been admitted to Tohoku University or other universities in the Tohoku region, as a preparation for graduate-level research or teacher training programs.

Course Period :

This is a six-month program covering functional Japanese necessary in daily life as well as the fundamentals of the Japanese language essential to specialized research fields in Japan. The program is offered twice a year from April to September (Spring semester, or Semester A) and from October to March of the following year (Fall semester, or Semester B). Each semester consists of 20 weeks of intensive Japanese language study and other activities.

2. Japanese Language and Culture Study Program for International Students

Eligibility:

International students who receive scholarship from the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)

Goals:

This program is for students specializing in Japanese language and culture at a university in their home country. For a period of one year, they will have the opportunity to study various aspects of Japanese culture and modern society. Upon returning to their own country, they will be able to autonomously continue their learning, research, and social activities related to Japanese language and culture.
